A cornerstone laying ceremony for the German company of automobile components Kromberg & Schubert took place on July 2nd of 2012 at the industrial zone Zabeni, near Bitola. The investment in this plant is worth €20 million and is designed to create 2500 jobs. This investment project will contribute for a greater economic cooperation between Macedonia and Germany altogether supplying €100 million in annual export of products.

In attendance of the cornerstone ceremony was the Macedonian Prime Minister, Nikola Gruevski accompanied by the Ministers of the Macedonian government.

In his welcome speech, Prime Minister Gruevski stated that the Kromberg & Schubert investment in the country is the largest Greenfield investment in its number of created jobs in Macedonia’s recent history. He added that this particular ceremony represents a cornerstone for a better and brighter future in the region. Prime Minister Gruevski highlighted that the new factory will open positions for many workers who were previously employed in the industries in Bitola, Prilep, Resen and the surrounding areas.

According to Martin Passern, Kromberg & Schubert’s managing board director, the first part of the factory is expected to be constructed in November of 2012, and the first automotive components are expected to be manufactured in year 2013.

Passern stated that the company’s priority will be to employ highly qualified and extremely motivated workers, who have either completed secondary education or have graduated from a university. He emphasized that during their search for a location that will satisfy their criteria for building capacities for an automotive cable plant, they came across the investment incentives in Macedonia. Passern stated that in Bitola they have found favourable conditions and land with excellent infrastructure to meet their priorities.
