In October 2012, American company KEMET constructed a new facility in the Skopje 1 free zone with a total area of 10,000 m². The investment is worth €30 million and 500 people are expected to be employed. KEMET produces capacitors for automotive components and industrial applications at this plant.

KEMET is a leading global supplier of capacitors with an 85-year history. Kemet maintains its corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility in Simpsonville, South Carolina. Manufacturing facilities are located in Mexico, China, Italy, England, Portugal, Finland, Sweden, Indonesia, Germany, Bulgaria, Nevada, and Macedonia. KEMET also owns two specialty electronics companies, FELCO in Chicago, Illinois, and Dectron in Sweden.

At the start of the 2018 calendar year, 285 people have been employed at Kemet.
