WIK Group, a family-owned German manufacturer of electrical appliances started construction in 2017 of a 10,000m²plant in the Prilep free zone for the production of electrical appliances. The investment in the initial phase is worth €12 million, with 1,200 jobs expected to open. This first phase covers construction of the facility, equipment, and machinery. Additional stages of development are planned.

WIK made the decision to invest in Macedonia in 2016, when the country was in competition with Romania, Ukraine, and Serbia for the investment. All production is intended for export to Europe. At the start of 2018, a total of 11 people were employed at the company.

WIK was established in the fifties and has production facilities in China and Indonesia. The company has 6,000 employees with 350 engineers headquartered in Essen and Hong Kong where the centres for innovation, design and development are based.
