Johnson Matthey chose North Macedonia as the location for its European mega-factory for auto-catalysts, competing against 13 countries, including the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia. The Johnson Matthey factory in the Skopje 1 Technological Industrial Development Zone (TIDZ) is the largest investment project and the most sophisticated and advanced Johnson Matthey factory globally, recognized as Macedonia’s largest exporter. The investment amounts to €80 million, and the initial number of employees was over 350.
In May 2012, Johnson Matthey marked the beginning of a significant expansion project in Macedonia by constructing a second factory located in the TIDZ Skopje 1. This investment of €65 million doubled initial production and created over 500 new jobs.

In October 2012, on a 4.4-hectare site, KEMET built a new factory in TIDZ Skopje 1, covering 44,267 square meters, with a total investment of €30 million. In this factory, KEMET produces capacitors for the automotive industry and various industrial applications.
In 2020, KEMET became part of the Taiwanese Yageo Group, a leading multinational company in the production of electronic components with manufacturing and sales capacities in Asia, Europe, and America, employing over 40,000 people worldwide.

The Italian industrial group Vitillo has been present in Macedonia in the TIDZ Skopje 1 as Vitek Doo Ilinden since 2011. The company’s main activity is the production of low, medium, and high-pressure hydraulic hoses, and production in North Macedonia is intended for the whole of Europe, the Gulf countries, and America.
The total investment by the company amounts to €30 million.
The total number of employees in Vitek Doo Ilinden as of October 2024 is 203.

The world-renowned Belgian brand for high-quality bus production, Van Hool, completed the first phase of its factory in TIDZ Skopje 2 in Bunardzik in 2012, creating 800 jobs. The first bus left the factory on October 15, 2013, restoring the tradition of the bus industry in the country. In May 2016, Van Hool invested in a second phase at the same location in TIDZ Skopje 2, opening an additional 400 jobs, with total investments exceeding €50 million during this period.
The extensive experience of employees in manufacturing quality buses produced in the country in the past, the education of young generations in technical schools, and the solid Macedonian universities are the foundation of quality in the production process. Passenger and city buses for the European, U.S., and Canadian markets are produced in the factory.
In March 2024, the production facility in Skopje was taken over by the renowned Dutch VDL Group. In August 2024, the company was renamed VDL Van Hool Macedonia, retaining the “Van Hool” brand on its products.
As of October 2024, 1,293 employees work in the factory, covering an area of around 80,000 m², producing buses for discerning customers and meeting the strict standards and criteria of the European and North American markets. The company has made continuous efforts to source some of its components locally. Today, VDL Van Hool Macedonia is a serious partner to more than 20 domestic companies, many of which it has invested in to help them become suppliers to a top-tier global company.

Adient is a global leader in the production of automotive seats. At over 200 locations worldwide, with more than 70,000 employees in 29 countries, Adient manufactures and supplies automotive seats for the largest manufacturers in the automotive industry. From complete seat systems to individual components for foam, upholstery, and metal, Adient’s expertise covers every step in the vehicle seating creation process. The company’s integrated capabilities ensure product care from research and design to engineering and production for millions of vehicles each year. October 31, 2016, marks the company’s listing on the New York Stock Exchange and the day it officially became Adient, formerly known as Johnson Controls, with over 30 years of experience, expertise, and excellence.
In October 2011, Adient launched its investment project for a new factory for automotive seat covers in TIDZ Shtip. By the end of 2023, the investment exceeded €27.3 million, with the number of employees at the beginning of October 2024 reaching 1,415.
In June 2017, another Adient factory opened in TIDZ Strumica, the first facility in TIDZ Strumica, producing automotive seat covers. The investment amounts to over €20 million, and the number of employees at the beginning of October 2024 is 1,052.

Technical Textiles is a German company established in North Macedonia in 2015, producing fiberglass mesh for insulation systems and facades, as well as construction accessories. Their traditional production quality meets the highest European standards, for which the company is internationally certified. Flexibility in production is their main advantage, offering excellent services through their friendly staff.
The production facility in TIDZ Shtip is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and a machine park ready to meet all client requirements with a capacity to fully meet newly opened markets. Technical Textiles Macedonia operates in all European markets and the Middle East.

Makdia, a subsidiary of the Italian Diatec Group, was established in August 2014 in TIDZ Skopje 1 to develop garment markets in Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean, leveraging its strategic location.
Thanks to its in-house production lines, Makdia can supply a complete range of products for the apparel industry, including HDPE films, standard and heat-sealable plotter paper, perforated paper, and other products for the cutting room. The production is intended for the markets of Southeastern Europe, the Mediterranean, the Middle East, and North Africa.
The size of this investment amounts to €10 million, and as of early October 2024, the number of employees stands at 28.

ARC Automotive, headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA, is a global manufacturer specializing in a full range of automotive inflators for airbags. Occupying an area of 22,168 square meters, ARC Automotive opened its airbag inflator production facility in Macedonia in December 2015, less than a year after the investment decision was made. The factory, located in TIDZ Skopje 1, represents a €22 million investment. As of early October 2024, the workforce comprises 398 employees.
The company is export-oriented, with products primarily intended for the European market. Equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and highly sophisticated production lines, the factory presents a unique opportunity for skilled Macedonian personnel to engage in its operations.

Italian company Condevo is a leader in the production of heat exchangers for boilers and supplies renowned global boiler manufacturers. The company offers a wide range of components that meet the most advanced technical standards in this sector. Active in the European market since 1969, Condevo’s investment site covers an area of 49,382 square meters.
In September 2015, Condevo began constructing its new factory in Macedonia, located in the Technological Industrial Development Zone in Shtip. The initial investment amounted to €30 million, with a second contract signed in December 2022 for an additional €33.5 million.
As of early October 2024, 186 people are employed at the factory.

Joyson Safety Systems, formerly Key Safety Systems, is a Chinese company that develops and manufactures automotive safety systems. The company is the result of a merger between KSS and Takata Corporation, with headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan, USA.
Joyson Safety Systems selected Macedonia in 2014 to expand its European production. With a total investment of €27 million, the company initially began producing airbag inflators and modules.
The global supplier of advanced automotive safety systems started operating in a brownfield facility in Kichevo in 2015, and in 2016, continued production in a greenfield facility in the Kichevo Free Zone on a plot of 13,600 square meters, with a total plot area of 42,154 square meters.
Owned by Ningbo Joyson Electronic, a Chinese automotive conglomerate that acquired Key Safety Systems in 2016, Joyson Safety Systems is a world leader in developing and manufacturing inflators, airbags, steering wheels, and seat belts. It has an international network of 34 sales, design, and manufacturing facilities globally, employing approximately 50,000 people worldwide.
As of early October 2024, 1,368 people are employed in the company, with projections to reach up to 1,500 employees.

American corporation Gentherm is a leader in thermal technology and the largest supplier of heating and cooling systems for seats, steering wheels, electronics, and cables. Gentherm North Macedonia DOOEL Prilep’s production is used by major global brands such as BMW, Mercedes, and Volkswagen.
With 12 locations worldwide and more than 11,000 employees globally, Gentherm officially began operations in 2016 in the Technological Industrial Development Zone Alinci in Prilep, becoming the first foreign investment in the Pelagonija region’s TIDZ zone.
During the first investment phase, a production facility of 912 square meters was constructed, and the total investment has since expanded to over €40 million, covering an area of 22,459 square meters.
The number of employees at the beginning of October 2024 is 2,608, making Gentherm North Macedonia DOOEL Prilep the largest employer in the Prilep area.

American company Delphi is a leading global supplier to the automotive and commercial vehicle market, ranking among the top 15 largest global automotive suppliers, with an annual turnover exceeding €17 billion. With 146,000 employees worldwide, 126 manufacturing plants, and operations in over 33 countries, Delphi split into two independent companies in March 2017: Delphi Technologies and Aptiv. The latter was focused on automated driving and electrification.
In December 2015, Aptiv decided to invest in a factory in Macedonia, located in TIDZ Skopje 1, to produce the latest vehicle module technology, which is installed across Europe. The investment covers a plot of 53,998 square meters and works in coordination with other Delphi facilities in the region to ensure efficiency and flexibility for clients.
The total investment value is €30.3 million, with 517 employees as of early October 2024.

Hi-Tech Assembly Center is the first domestic company to make an investment decision in Macedonia, founded and owned by Hi-Tech Corp from Skopje. Its products are used in the automotive, aerospace, military, and medical equipment industries. This Macedonian company’s clients include global brands such as Continental, Siemens, Bosch, and Philips.
In February 2016, the foundation stone for the factory in TIDZ Skopje 1 was laid. As a supplier of numerous global automotive companies in the electronic board sector, the company has taken a step further with its new operations in TIDZ, moving from mostly prototype to mass production, specifically diversifying into the assembly of electronic boards. The production includes using electronic printed boards as a base on which components such as microprocessors, resistors, capacitors, transistors, connectors, and more are assembled.
The factory’s parcel size is 18,861 square meters. According to the business plan, the investment is valued at around €6.6 million. As of early October 2024, the company employed 101 people at TIDZ Skopje 1, with an expected increase to about 300 employees.
The company’s products are entirely intended for foreign markets, with the majority exported to Germany, Scandinavia, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

Lear Corporation, a leading global provider of automotive seat covers and electrical distribution systems, serves all major car manufacturers worldwide. Its products are featured in over 350 vehicle types, designed, engineered, and manufactured by a team of approximately 140,000 employees in 36 countries.
Located in TIDZ Tetovo, the factory in Macedonia spans 12,000 square meters with an investment worth over €15 million. The parcel size is 33,073 square meters, housing advanced machinery, production facilities (for leather and fabric cutting), warehouses, and office spaces.

Injection Moulding Prilep DOOEL, a foreign direct investment by the German company ACCOMPLAST GmbH, is its fourth subsidiary, founded in March 2015 in Prilep, Macedonia, as a regional supplier of injection-molded plastic components specializing in the automotive industry. Injection Moulding Prilep is part of Labone Holdings LTD, which comprises seven companies across locations in Germany, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, the UK, and Macedonia.
On January 14, 2016, the foundation stone for the production of automotive parts was laid on a 22,000 m² parcel in the Alinci Technological-Industrial Development Zone near Prilep. The company officially began its €3 million investment, starting production in 2017 with plastic components for well-known automotive companies such as Mercedes-Benz Group AG, BMW, VW, Audi, Bentley, Volvo, Jaguar, and Porsche. As of early October 2024, the company employed 37 people, with plans to add 200 new jobs.

ODW-ELEKTRIK, a family-owned German company founded in Steinau an der Straße, Hesse, in 1970, currently employs over 3,000 people across Germany, Hungary, Ukraine, Macedonia, Mexico, and Tunisia. Specializing as an innovative development partner and supplier of high-quality cables, solenoids, and mechatronic systems, ODW-ELEKTRIK serves brands like Porsche, Mercedes, Audi, BMW, Ford, and Renault, continuously expanding its product range and improving production processes.
ODW-ELEKTRIK Macedonia began with a small operation in 2014 with 10 employees, growing with investments in technology and workforce development. In 2017, it officially relocated to the Technological-Industrial Development Zone in the Ohrid-Struga Region.
As of 2024, the factory in Macedonia is the largest, most profitable, and technologically advanced in the ODW-ELEKTRIK group, with 886 employees as of October 2024 and plans for continued growth.

WIK Group, a global electrical appliance manufacturer headquartered in Hong Kong and Essen, Germany, with innovation, design, and development centers, was founded in the 1950s. It operates production facilities in China and Indonesia, employing 5,000 people, including 350 engineers. In November 2016, WIK decided to invest in Macedonia.
In July 2017, WIK began constructing a production facility in TIDZ Prilep for manufacturing electrical appliances, all of which are intended for export to Europe.
The facility covers 63,341 square meters, with an investment valued at €11.6 million and a planned workforce of 1,200 employees. As of early October 2024, there are 518 employees.

Cagatay Kablo, a Turkish company founded in 1998, manufactures wires and cable installations primarily for the automotive industry, serving leading manufacturers of buses, tractors, construction machinery, trucks, commercial vehicles, air conditioning units, cleaning machines, and specialized airport vehicles.
In May 2017, in addition to its Turkish factory, Cagatay Kablo decided to build a new factory in Macedonia, investing €5 million. The company leased a 26,000 square meter parcel in TIDZ Skopje 1 and began production in 2018.
The Skopje facility supplies the Dutch bus manufacturer VDL-Van Hool, also present in the industrial complex, which relies on local suppliers instead of importing parts.
In 2024, the company announced the expansion of production facilities and a new investment of €5 million with 150 new jobs in the next 5 years. The new investment, which will cover 8000 m2 of closed space, foresees the production of a new wire and cable product intended for the automotive industry.

Baumer, a renowned Swiss company, decided in 2018 to invest in a production facility in TIDZ Skopje 1, valued at over €5 million.
Baumer is a family-owned international company producing advanced sensor technology, encoders, and measuring instruments in electronics. With 39 subsidiaries in 19 countries and over 2,800 employees, Baumer employs 65 people in its Macedonian facility and R&D center as of October 2024, expanding due to its positive experience in the country.

Murat Ticaret, a Turkish company, began building a factory in TIDZ Skopje 2 in July 2018, with an investment of €5.5 million. The company manufactures cables and electrical installations for the automotive industry, intended for the European and American markets. Established in 1969, it joined Volex Plc in September 2023, operating with 2,000 employees across Europe, North America, Turkey, China, and Mexico.
As of early October 2024, the Macedonia facility, operating under the name Murat Wiring System, employed 172 people, with plans to reach a total of 300 employees.

At the beginning of 2019, Gerresheimer, an innovative systems and solutions provider and a global partner for the pharma, biotech and cosmetics industries with headquarters in Germany decided to invest in a new factory, in TIDZ Skopje 2, signed a land lease agreement and celebrated the topping-out ceremony already in October of the same year.
For Gerresheimer this was the first production site in Southeast Europe. North Macedonia was chosen by Gerresheimer because it offers favourable business conditions with trained personnel, good infrastructure, an attractive cost structure and very good support from the authorities.
The plant, which has started production in 2020, initially comprised 12.500 sqm, but has recently been expanded to 20,000 sqm. The facility includes modern ISO Class 7, 8 and 9 cleanrooms of around 10,000 sqm.
To date, Gerresheimer has invested a high double-digit million euro amount in the facility, where Gerresheimer produces drug delivery systems and other medical devices made of plastics as well as ready-to-fill glass syringes.
In 2024, the plant employed more than 200 skilled people from the Republic of North Macedonia with further recruitment underway, has set up a dual training programme for apprentices and cooperates with the University of Skopje.
With 35 production sites in 16 countries in Europe, America and Asia, Gerresheimer has a global presence and produces locally for regional markets. The company offers a comprehensive portfolio of pharmaceutical containment solutions, drug delivery systems and medical devices as well as solutions for the health industry. The product range includes digital solutions for therapy support, medication pumps, syringes, pens, auto-injectors and inhalers as well as vials, cartridges, ampoules, tablet containers, infusion, dropper and syrup bottles and more. Gerresheimer ensures the safe delivery and reliable administration of drugs to the patient. With around 12,000 employees, the company generated revenues of around €2bn in 2023.

Iprotex is a German company in the automotive industry that decided to invest in TIDZ Skopje 1 on January 20, 2021, when the state aid agreement was signed. This agreement obligated the company, part of the Innotech & Iprotex group, to invest €3.75 million and create 100 jobs. By early October 2023, the company has employed 66 people.
In the TIDZ Skopje 1 factory, the company transferred part of its production and technology from Germany, introducing a new extrusion production line for monofilaments, a completely new field in the company’s portfolio.
Iprotex was founded in Germany in 1999. It has six factories across four continents and two sales offices. The company specializes in materials for the automotive industry, technical textiles, and thermal insulation materials. Recently, Iprotex has focused on researching and refining new techniques for thermal-technical insulation in the automotive sector. In 2019, it established a new contract with the European Space Agency and NASA for the production of satellite receiver casings for spacecraft.

Purplast, a Turkish company with 40 years of experience in the automotive industry, exports its products to 36 countries worldwide. In February 2021, the company signed a state aid agreement to invest in TIDZ Skopje 2.
The investment process started in 2019, with land preparation on July 1, 2020. Within 7.5 months, 75% of the construction was completed. The leased land area for Purplast is 26,000 m², with 50% utilized in the first phase (Phase 2 is expected in 2025). The facility has a total closed area of 12,000 m², including a two-story administrative building of 1,600 m² and a production hall and technical rooms totaling 10,400 m².
Purplast is a local partner for another foreign investor in the country, VDL Van Hool, and its product portfolio includes parts for interiors (dashboards, covers, dividers, ceiling trims, handles, steering wheels), commercial vehicle exteriors (bumpers, front and rear masks, side panels, roof panels), and seating for passenger trains, city buses, and trucks.
The planned number of employees is 300, with 102 employed as of early October 2024.

Kostal, a German company, is a global leader in technologically advanced electronic, electromechanical, and mechatronic products for major industrial manufacturers. The company operates in 42 locations across five continents, employing over 18,000 people.
In December 2014, Kostal announced plans to expand production in Europe by investing in Macedonia. Production began in October 2016 as a brownfield investment located in the former EMO in Ohrid, with production facilities spanning about 25,000 square meters. Kostal’s clients include prominent automotive brands such as BMW, Daimler, Porsche, Tesla, Rolls Royce, and Bentley.

DURA Automotive Systems, an American company headquartered in Michigan, is a global supplier of original components for renowned automobile manufacturers worldwide. Established in 1914, the company employs over 6,400 people across 13 countries.
DURA designs and produces innovative, highly integrated automotive components for leading vehicle manufacturers in America, Asia, and Europe. In June 2018, the company decided to expand production by opening a factory in TIDZ Skopje 2, covering approximately 20,000 m² on a plot of 45,263 m², where aluminum exterior parts are manufactured.
The initial investment of €20 million has reached €24 million. The company is expected to employ up to 250 people, with 70 employees as of early October 2024.

Aspectus Pharma is a Macedonian pharmaceutical company producing generic tablets, involving both full-cycle production and secondary packaging. The company focuses on developing its market in Macedonia and the Balkans and aims to collaborate with international pharmaceutical companies in contract manufacturing.
Aspectus Pharma holds a national GMP certificate. The factory, located in TIDZ Skopje 1, began operations in 2011 on a plot of 25,040 square meters, with over €10 million invested in the company’s development.

Magna Mirrors South-East Europe, a Canadian company located in TIDZ Struga on a 47,400 m² area, is known for manufacturing mirrors and technological components for the automotive industry, with clients such as General Motors, Ford, BMW, Toyota, Volkswagen, Honda, and others. The facility represents a €20 million investment, with 1,100 employees as of October 2024.
Simultaneously, Magna Mechatronics in TIDZ Shtip produces automotive locks. This is a €40 million investment, employing 250 people as of early October 2024, with plans to hire around 600 employees.

Teknopanel is a Turkish group comprising four industrial brands: Teknopanel Sandwich Panels, Deltapan, Teknopor EPS Products, and Teknosistem Exterior Thermal Insulation Systems. The group employs 498 people and is one of Europe’s leading companies in advanced technological production, with a capacity of 13.5 million m² of sandwich panels and 1.6 million m³ of polystyrene insulation boards. It exports to 106 countries across Asia, Europe, Africa, North and South America. For eight consecutive years, Teknopanel has been ranked in the Top 500 industrial companies by the Istanbul Chamber of Industry.
Teknopanel plans to invest €19.6 million in building a new production facility in TIDZ Skopje 1 on a plot of 55,044 m². According to the investment plan and financial projections, the company will create 120 new jobs, with an expected total export value of over €170.5 million in the next nine years. As of October 2024, it employs 46 people.
Yageo, a Taiwanese multinational, is a leader in manufacturing electronic components with a strong global presence and production and sales capacities across Asia, Europe, and the Americas, employing 40,000 people globally. In April 2023, Yageo signed an agreement for the largest greenfield investment in the country, committing €205 million.
Yageo ranks as the world’s #1 in chip resistors, #1 in tantalum capacitors, and #3 in MLCC and inductors, with a global presence spanning 29 sales offices, 51 production locations, and 20 R&D centers across 25 nations. Its extensive product offerings target key vertical markets, including aerospace, automotive, medical, 5G, telecommunications, IoT, energy management, green energy, computer peripherals, and consumer electronics.
According to the investment plan and financial projections, Yageo, with production facilities in TIDZ Skopje 1 and TIDZ Štip, will create over 3,900 new jobs.

Belgian company Avesta Battery and Energy Engineering is an engineering firm specializing in advanced innovative solutions for batteries and battery systems for automotive and stationary applications. According to projections, the overall plan includes a €40 million investment in TIDZ Kichevo and the creation of 600 new jobs, with an average gross salary of €1,500. Additionally, the company plans to develop a new range of products that will expand ABEE’s product portfolio, with an annual production capacity of 300,000 units.
Avesta Battery and Energy Engineering in TIDZ Kichevo will focus on the development and production of Battery Management Systems (BMS) and power electronics systems.
Linamar Corporation is a global manufacturing company of highly engineered products, founded in Canada in 1966. Today, the company owns 61 factories with approximately 27,000 employees. All factories are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and production expertise, creating solutions that drive vehicles, work, and life into the future.
The propulsion segment is focused on powertrain systems, structural systems, and chassis, battery carriers, and battery production for global electric vehicles, as well as traditionally powered vehicles. Operationally, mobility is organized into three regional groups: North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific, along with the new product group Linamar Structures. The group offers competitive innovations for lightweight, safety-critical components and systems for the global mobility market.
Linamar entered the Macedonian market in August 2023 by acquiring the existing factory of DURA Automotive Structures in TIDZ 2 Skopje, which produced structural components, specifically battery carriers for electric vehicles.
As of October 2024, the company has 193 local employees and operates with cutting-edge technology.

The German group BMZ is a leader in providing the full lifecycle of lithium-ion battery systems for various industries. Headquartered in Karlstein, Frankfurt, with additional production facilities in China, Poland, and the USA, and branches in Japan, the UK, and France, the group employs over 2,300 highly skilled employees.
In September 2023, BMZ signed an investment agreement worth €65 million, projecting the creation of 775 new jobs in the Technological Industrial Development Zone Skopje 2. With an expected annual export exceeding €360 million, the new facility will conduct serial production of battery products, and the total investment will be realized over a period of 10 years.

Announcing a new investment of €30 million, the multinational outsourcing services leader EMAPTA will open a 6,000-square-meter office space in TIDZ Skopje 1 and plans to hire 850 young people over the next five years or more than 2,500 over a decade. By the end of the investment period, the company will invest over €15 million annually in salaries alone. In 2022, the company generated revenue of $2.8 billion, with a projection of $3 billion for the coming year.
According to EMAPTA Macedonia’s financial projections, the company expects revenue of €14 million by 2027, with projected revenue of €66 million by the end of the investment project in 2033. The company’s target group consists primarily of young, highly educated individuals who will remain in the country and work for foreign clients.
Its client list includes well-known global manufacturers of household appliances and white goods such as Whirlpool, Amika, Gorenje, Beko, and Candy. With the signing of an agreement in April 2024, Shahterm plans to invest €100 million in building a new production facility in TIDZ Skopje 2, on a plot exceeding 20,000 square meters and constructing a building with a floor area of over 13,000 square meters. This new investment will include a research and development center and will be Shahterm’s first production facility outside the Republic of Turkey. According to the investment plan and financial projections, Shahterm will create 1,000 new jobs.
